Senior Pastor

David Chittim

Pastor David Chittim began life as the son of an Assemblies of God minister in the Puyallup Valley.  He accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior on his eighth birthday in a church sanctuary that looked much like the Nave of Living Grace Fellowship.  Through the strong commitment of his parents to the Lord, David was blessed to have a solid foundation of Christian education by attending Sunday School and church on a consistent basis in his formative years.  Knowing the story of Jesus and memorizing scripture as a child was a gift that continues to give even now.  He has joked about his upbringing that "I had all the answers before I asked the questions!"
Like many, David struggled through his teen years with matters of faith.  In his junior year of High School, he realized that he had come to a crossroads.  In his own words, " I knew I had to either live as a believer in Christ or I might as well be a pagan.  I could not "kind of be' a Christian."  He chose to fully commit his life to the Lord.  From that time on, David began pursuing a call to Christian ministry.  Following graduation from Sumner High School, he earned a degree from Northwest College in Biblical Literature from the Assemblies of God Theological Seminary, and a Master of Social Work from Eastern Washington University.  Besides being a pastor, David is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.  In his senior year at Northwest, David accepted a youth pastor position in a German speaking church in Tacoma.  He met Heidi, his wife of 45 years there.  Together they raised three children and now have ten grandkids!  Heidi is David's best friend and supporter!  They are seasoned partners in ministry.  David's passion for the Word of God, the Bible, is the foundation for his teaching ministry at Living Grace Fellowship.  His commitment is that the Bible is the living and active truth of God to his people.  His vision is that followers of Jesus become robust in their knowledge of God's Word through fellowship, teaching, unity of faith, and discipleship so that they might live victoriously as followers of Christ.  When we live as authentic Christ followers, we show the truth of God's grace to the world.  In practice, Pastor David and Living Grace Fellowship are committed to knowing Jesus personally and extending His grace to others in their spiritual journey.  His favorite Latin phrase is Soli Deo Gloria, which means Glory to God Alone.

Young people want to belong!  They are always searching for acceptance.  It is a core value for them to find a place where they can express themselves and find community.  This is the heart of LGF student ministry—we want our young people to find their acceptance, love and belonging with Jesus!   I truly don’t think that kid’s care about what you know until they know that you care about them.  That is what we do each Sunday, we learn about Jesus together, as a team!  We care deeply about each one of our students, and what we might lack in size, we make up for in relationship.  Come belong with us!
